Doom movie delayed untill fall

Blockbuster movies getting turned into games are nothing new, but recently, the roles have been reversed. The jump from gaming monitor to movie screen has been fast and plentiful for many recent titles. Resident Evil, House of the Dead, and Tomb Raider have all made the leap to the silver screen, and Halo, Spy Hunter, and Bloodrayne are some of the games rumored to be coming to a cineplex near you.

In an interview on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson confirmed that he would be starring in a movie version of id Software's Doom, and that it would blast into theaters this summer.

Gamers eager to get their hands off their keyboards and into some movie-theater popcorn may want to play the recently released Doom 3 expansion a tad longer for their Doom fix. According to the Universal Pictures WebSite, Doom has been delayed until October 21.

One of the more interesting game-to-movie offerings set to get the Hollywood treatment, Doom is being directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave, Exit Wounds), and stars Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Bourne Supremacy). The movie will take much of its storyline from Doom 3, and sees Urban and Johnson as space marines who come across a portal to hell on Mars.
