Hugo Weaving's voice lords over LOTR game

Electronic Arts today decided to give its upcoming real-time strategy PC game, The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II, a bit of a regal touch. The publisher has announced that Hugo Weaving, the actor who portrays Lord Elrond in the Tolkien film trilogy, will lend his voice to the game.

Weaving, whose roles have included the voice of Rex the Sheepdog in Babe and Agent Smith in The Matrix, will reprise his role as Elrond, guiding the player along the game's storyline. Not only will Elrond introduce new missions in the game, but he will also occasionally jump into the fray, engaging in battles not seen in the films, as this game is based on the literary Lord of the Rings works as well as the films.

EA also announced that concept artist John Rowe will help in the creation of the game's visuals.

Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II is being developed by EA's Los Angeles studios. The game does not yet have a release date.
