2K Games dealt World Poker Tour license

2K Games continues to flaunt a big stack. A subbrand of the new label 2K Sports signed a publishing deal with WPT Enterprises that grants it publishing rights to games based on The World Poker Tour television show. WPT games are already in development for the PC, consoles, handhelds, and mobiles by Coresoft and Backbone Studios. Previously, Mforma published a WPT title for mobiles.

"This agreement with 2K Sports takes the World Poker Tour into people's homes in a truly interactive manner," said WPT Enterprises founder and president Steve Lipscomb. "Gamers will have a chance to feel the exhilaration that our WPT players do when they grab one of those monster pots. We are looking forward to having our WPT brand available on the world's most popular game platforms."

2K Games has been busy in its infancy. Launched January 25 by parent company Take-Two Interactive, the brand has already secured exclusive third-party Major League Baseball game rights and the premium PC titles Civilization IV and Elder Scrolls IV.

The World Poker Tour is currently entering its third season on the Travel Channel, where it brings the greatest Texas Hold 'Em players, such as Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, and Gus Hansen, to the table.
