Blizzard Games Set to Return to China as Microsoft and NetEase Strike New Deal

Blizzard Entertainment’s beloved titles are poised to make a comeback in China after being absent since 2023. Microsoft Gaming and NetEase have inked a renewed agreement, reigniting a partnership that originated in 2008. The deal marks a pivotal moment for both companies and gamers alike.

Under the renewed publishing agreement, Chinese players can anticipate the return of iconic titles such as World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo, Overwatch, and StarCraft. This move comes as a result of extensive discussions between Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase, signaling a shared commitment to providing exceptional gaming experiences to players in mainland China.

The agreement also extends to exploring the possibility of bringing new NetEase titles to Xbox consoles and other platforms, further solidifying the strategic partnership between Microsoft Gaming and NetEase. This collaboration underscores a mutual desire to expand gaming experiences across different platforms and markets.

Likewise, William Ding, CEO and Director of NetEase, highlighted the importance of trust and mutual respect in serving the gaming community, affirming the company’s unwavering commitment to providing exhilarating entertainment experiences.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, praised the efforts of both Blizzard and NetEase in renewing their commitment to players, acknowledging the significant impact Blizzard’s universes have had on gamers in the region. Spencer emphasized Microsoft’s commitment to bringing more games to players worldwide, signaling a promising future for gaming enthusiasts.

The return of Blizzard games to China marks a significant milestone for the industry, with millions of players excited to dive back into their favorite titles.
